OK, so I keep coming here because I love me some NV. But there's a reason I like to check in on CN, and it's for the politics there. I really do see a resemblance between CN politics and real-world events, particularly in the foreign policy area. I don't want to throw stones at any CN players or alliances here, but I do want to draw parallels.
For example, I saw the way NPO operated pre-Karma was very similar to US foreign policy: line up allies and punish those that step out of line. Run the propaganda to make their way seem like it was the only way. Most other alliances toed the line or kept their heads low, like most nations do with the USA.
My question is: will the USA face a "Karma War" and if it does, what will it look like?
Insights I've gotten from CN...

As long as NATO exists, war is impossible in my opinion.
That and the fact the US pretty much spends so much on defence it's pretty much impossible to defeat even if a type of Karma war were to occur.
Your parallels fall down because NPO was too small and weak. Now if NPO had had more nations than the rest of CN combined, then a parallel could be drawn! lol

I agree. Symmetric conflict is something we're ready for. Asymmetric, though, is another matter entirely. The amount of unsecured nuclear material in the world is already sufficient for several bombs. I really do think I'll see one detonated in an American city within my lifetime.

I'd also liken Israel to TORN... a small nation that likes to swing the big stick of a larger ally.

I look at World War II as the era of CN politics in RL.
You had a NAP between Germany and Russia, which was violated.
You had two opposing blocs, the Axis and the Allies.
Few examples, but I still think of it that way.

A lot of the moves in The Continuum reminded me of party maneuvers in the Dems or Repubs here in the USA. Interesting to see how group behaviour replicates and duplicates in various situations.
